SHAR THE ANALOG BASTARD

What' s an analog bastard?

One who love sound, vinyls, fat beats, old hardware, Hip Hop... just a miserable sub culture like Skeme' s mom used to say in Style Warz.

Deep into it since 1987 because of Graffity and copies of Run DMC and LL Cool J dusty tapes, it' s in a Paris which was fucked up with graffity tags that SHAR did his training, first of all in the subway and then behind a microphone with his homeboys of ADK CREW.

In the late 90' s, he decided to dedicate himself to Beatmaking and the art of doing music with old hardware machines.

His love for vinyl records bring him to travel literally as figuratively, to make meaningful human encounters and develop his love for a variety of musical genres which inspire him in the way that he does his beats.

Mello Music Group

"Like Lao Tzu in Hiphop Mello Music Group provides music for the soul, from the heart of American culture, opening the realm of the intelligent Hiphop experience through melodic evocations, beats that corroborate the truth, and voices that roar above the rising void and impose order on the terrible & triumphant moments of everyday life. This is the compelling sound of Mello Music Group.

Founded in late 2007 by Michael Tolle, MMG released its first full length album, Oddisee "101", in December of 2008. Since then the label has grown to be home to 20+ musicians. The label won recognition in 2009 after releasing the critically acclaimed Diamond District project "In The Ruff." In January of 2010, The LA Times named MMG one of the 10 reasons to be optimistic about Hiphop in 2010. Then in October of 2010, MMG cemented its place in Hiphop when they released the commercial success "Gas Mask" from the Apollo Brown headed Detroit group The Left. Already being compared with the likes of Stones Throw, RhymeSayers, and DuckDown, MMG chief Mello simply states, "it's an honor to be mentioned amongst those great labels, but we just try and do our thing. Our inspiration comes more from labels like Blue Note."

JMega

Raised in Long Beach, California, JMega has always been ahead of his time. Mastering the craft of poetry in motion since the age of 12, the Mega Man has only gotten stronger with time. Dedicating everything to the streets that made him, he has inspired many to fall in love with hip-hop all over again. In a world of plastic rap and glossy one-hit blunders, JMega has resurrected the classic sound of what we remember real music to be. Influenced by the styles of Rakim, Nas, and Raekwon, it is clear that JMega pioneers a wave of brand new talent coming from the West Coast.

Amede Soundsmith

AMEDE SOUNDSMITH is a 20 year old singer/composer hailing from East London to a Nigerian father and Zambian mother. He began is musical journey at 10 singing and song writing under the influence of R'n'B singer Joe. He started singing at any and every opportunity to crowds in local shows in his borough to friends and school talent competitions. This led to having recorded his first song at the tender age of 13 and the opportunity to go on ITV's 'Stars in Your Eye's Kids' with the R Kelly smash, Your Body's Callin'. However due to unforeseen circumstances the opportunity to sing for such a reputable show sadly came and went.

Undeterred, Amede joined his school choir as the only male and quickly became the lead singer with the choir director Mrs Brand instantly seeing his gift. As a gospel choir they performed at the Barbican in London which was a big success.

Whilst getting older and trying to perfect his sound, Amede heard Slum Village and Kanye West's 'Selfish' in 2004 and was blown away by the Hip Hop/Neo Soul movement which influenced his earlier work. Then came the legendary J Dilla, once Amede discovered him it moulded how he heard music, created music and what he considered to be 'real' music. Amede has always been exposed to a variety of genres, it was sample based hip hop that opened Amede to original soul, jazz and funk, then came producing with his cousin Kriptic Kaoz which focused on grime.

The fact that Amede has also looked into other music scenes such as in LA, Berlin, Asia & Scandinavia makes him stand out in terms of honing his craft and deciding the musical route he takes today and being current. Yet, it was in college where this young rising star evolved to be the beat junkie he is known as today and a lover of engineering sound which subjects like music technology, art and drama playing a major part.

To date Amede has released two EP's of his own back 'Flat 17 EP' and 'Demonstrating the Soundsmith' along with a number of free downloads which both met with great views.

Amede was also a part of a vocal ensemble headed by Michelle Escoffery, which included his now musical family of Azekel, Nadine Caesar and Shanaz Dorsett – who features of the 'Flat 17 EP'.

Currently Amede has just finished recording 7 tracks whilst studying Creative Music Technology at University quoting Little Dragon, Dam-Funk and Alternative Pop as influences behind the tracks. He is also a co-founder of Thunder Lightning music lifestyle company along with Azekel and Tony Blaize.

He is ready to deliver an Electrorganic sound to the whole world, following his heart and breaking barriers allowing God to guide him and he is not far into achieving that!

Versis

"VERSIS provides a voice for real Hip-Hop and for a generation that many feel have been negatively influenced by unrealistic music marketed by the mainstream media"

*I wanna keep this a trend in my music not to knock those that do it, but t'knock the preconceived notion of: "if it's Hip-Hop, it's GONNA have cussin' in it."

LDBK Compilation - All School Flavor Vol. 1

Since 2002, Laid Back connects creative minds from all over the world to help develop their art and get the word out. In every project we involve our audience by documenting every step of the process and generate interaction. For this compilation, we broadened our collaborative spirit even further and asked our community to make this project their own by funding it. The CD you are holding is the result of our supporters joining forces to make this happen. It was Pierre de Schaetzen who came up with the concept end of 2010 and we launched it early 2011 when Oli-B brilliantly reworked the Laid Back logo for the cover. Over 25 musicians and producers (from 9 different countries) immediately jumped on board and shared their latest tracks with us. Each of them has a long history with Laid Back. Growing side by side over the years, we're proud to hear how they raised the bar for what will be remembered as an important milestone in Laid Back's evolution.

We hope you enjoyed this journey and the music we compiled for your listening pleasure.

Stay Tuned,

Pierre de Schaetzen, LDBK compilation project manager

Doppelgangaz

From parts unknown dwell the ghastly duo. Matter ov Fact & EP are noted to be the last two descendants of the Rap Lords, summoned to the earth for purposes of wreaking havoc. Doing so with raw word connection over warm, gritty soundscapes, the groggy pack have been spotted smoking microphone devices in the New York Metropolitan area. No word has been said to confirm their whereabouts, but eye witnessed accounts of the short man and height man (with no hype man) sharking, frequenting brothels and boisterously blaring their art from random locations have been documented. Some say they are adorned in black cloaks as others have sworn they recognized the two donning the clothes of civilians. Regardless, The Doppelgangaz prefer anonymity alongside the creation of raw substance.

I present you some free stuff from them. If you like it:

Atilla

In most schools at some point children are assigned to write the obligatory essay based conceptually on which career path they will be taking once they reach adulthood. For the last 5 years Atilla has been formulating those words with the tedious patience and focus of a final exam. His submission comes in the form of his debut album, Strata: Type 1. Covering the various dynamics in the life of a young man, Strata is one part care free college student, with one part containing the "take on the world" ambition that sets the producer/emcee apart from his peers. The maturation process of the Kansas City native is evident as he explores both his journey and destination. If you're wondering what you want to be in life,Strata may be that piece of the proverbial handbook you've been missing.
